Thanks to funding from HRSDC’s Job Creation Partnership Program, the Cranbrook & District Community Foundation will be very active for the next 36 weeks. Up until now, the Foundation has operated thanks to the efforts of its many volunteers. Now the Foundation, with HRSDC support and that of Cranbrook businesses and individuals, is ready to take the Foundation to the next stage. The project has been given the title: “Next Steps to a Firm Foundation”. “We are really excited that HRSDC has given us the opportunity to hire three people,” says Melba Hanson, Project Coordinator. “This will allow us to achieve some specific goals, and give the public an opportunity to see what we have to offer Cranbrook.” The Foundation’s three new employees are Larisa Ositis, with a background in fundraising, event planning and marketing, Joe Dowling, a Chartered Accountant with experience in fundraising and operations and volunteer management, and Jeanne Ross, whose expertise includes publicity and event organization. The Foundation’s official Launch is to be held Saturday, September 25. The first feature will be a 6-hour workshop on how to write grant proposals for the Vancouver Foundation, Columbia Basin Trust and the Cranbrook & District Community Foundation. Anyone involved with an organization that might wish to apply for funding for a project will benefit from this workshop. Pre-registration is required, but the only cost is $10 to cover luncheon costs. The evening wine and cheese gathering will feature grant presentations to four local charities, thanks to the growing fund under the care of the Foundation. The $5,000 in grants is available thanks to the Vancouver Foundation’s LEAD program. A gift to the Foundation is an opportunity to permanently enhance the future of Cranbrook. The donated funds form a permanent pool of money which, when invested, produces an ongoing stream of money to be invested in the community. “A Gift for Good and For Ever” is the Foundation’s motto |
